Fort Knox Civil War Living History Encampment

Travel back in time to the 1860’s with the Civil War Living History Encampment at Fort Knox. The two weekend event features Civil War living history demos including garrison fort operations, guard mount, cannon firing and camp life in the mid-1800’s starting the weekend of Bucksport Bay Festival with fireworks on Friday night and Fort Knox Scottish Tattoo on Saturday. Beginning Friday, July 10th, soldiers from the 3rd Maine Regiment Vol Inf, Company A, 6th Maine Battery, 2nd Vermont, and 118th NY Infantry kick things off with a boom! Troops recreate Civil War Fort life including period guard mount, drill, parade and firing demonstrations while Cannoneers from the 6th Maine Battery reenact gun crew functions with full size replica 10 pound Parrot Rifles. The Northeast Topographical Engineers will provide a display of instruments and equipment used by Civil War Engineers and The Hardtacks: 19th Century Folk Musicians will perform camp songs, hymns, battlefield rallying cries and fiddle tunes throughout the weekend. During the weekdays, historians, authors and experts (including John Weaver and Brian Swartz) will provide informative and educational presentations on Civil War history using Fort Knox Historic Site as an immersive backdrop. A unique historical and educational experience for all ages. Watch for updates and schedules to be published. The Fort Knox Civil War Living History Encampment continues from 17-19 July. Join the 20th Maine Infantry Company B, 15th Regiment Alabama Volunteer Infantry, Company A as they converge on the battlefield to recreate skirmishes with muskets and cannons in tactical defense, assaults and advances in a battle for ground true to the period.
