Penobscot and Poetry: A Talk and Reading
On Wednesday, June 18, at 5:30 Local Color gallery will host art writer and poet Carl Little who will share images from Art of Penobscot Bay, his and brother David’s latest collaboration. In addition to providing a visual tour of the bay—including Belfast—Little will discuss some of the challenges related producing the book. Little is the author of numerous art books and writes on a regular basis for several publications, including The Working Waterfront, Ornament, Hyperallergic, and Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors. In 2021, the year he retired from the Maine Community Foundation, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his art writing from the Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation.
Little will also read a handful of poems from his new collection, Blanket of the Night. His poems have appeared in a wide range of publications, including the Maine Arts Journal, The Café Review, and the Maine Sunday Telegram. Copies of both books will be available for sale or ordering courtesy of Anodyne Book Shop.
Local Color Gallery is located at 135 High Street in Belfast. Summer hours are 11 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 to 4 Sunday. For more information see www.localcolorgallerymaine.org.
