The Penobscot Maritime Heritage Association is celebrating Maine's 200th birthday with a big splash! Tall ships and schooners along with a U.S. Coast Guard Patrol Craft and the University of Maine's 3-D printed boat (the largest 3-D printed object in the world) will visit the Penobscot River from July 13-18, 2021 as part of the month-long 4-Port Loop celebration. We will be honoring Maine's rich maritime past in the historic four ports of Bangor, Bucksport, Orrington and Searsport that anchor the geographic area known as the “4-Port Loop.”
The ships plying the waters of the mighty Penobscot include the historic Tall Ships Nao Santa Maria and Maine Maritime Academy's Bowdoin; plus a 175' U.S. Coast Guard cutter Abbie Burgess; the largest 3-D printed object in the world, the working patrol boat, 3Dirigo, from the University of Maine's University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center; and the American Cruise Line's 288' Constitution. They will make various appearances or sail by's at Bangor's waterfront activities, Orrington's Old Home Week, Bucksport's special events and the finale to Searport's 175th anniversary celebrations.
The mission of the Penobscot Maritime Heritage Association is to provide a historical perspective of the Penobscot River Basin and create tourism and economic opportunities in the Penobscot River Basin with the goals of making the 4-Port Loop a vacation destination in Maine and maintaining it as a sustainable annual event. We hope you will join in the fun.
The 4-Port loop event is proudly sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank.
