A presentation and demonstration of tintype photography will be held at approximately 12:30 on August 12, at the Belfast Senior Center. Tintype is one of the earliest photographic processes, dating from the 1850s, the Civil War era. Their lightness and durability helped in the documentation of westward expansion. They also provided an easy way for soldiers to send photos home or carry reminders of loved ones, as it was the first process to be affordable and convenient to the average person. Dirt Human of Brooks, ME, will present the history and guide us through the tintype process.
This free program at the Belfast Boathouse, located at 34 Commercial St., Belfast, is open to area seniors. While you're here, enjoy games, puzzles, a free lunch provided by the Belfast Soup Kitchen (sign-up by 11:15), and great company from 10-3. Don't miss out on this opportunity to immerse yourself in history and fun.
